FDS was requested to examine an entry in a police notebook to ascertain whether or not it was a contemporaneous record of events. The entry read "request witness protection".
Following detailed forensic document examinations and forensic handwriting examinations, it was found that the suspect entry was written using a different pen to that used to write the surrounding entries and that the writing in question was significantly smaller than the surrounding entries. This was strong evidence that the suspect entry was not written contemporaneously with the substantive notebook entry and not until after at least the entry on the following line.
